Dr. Pineda, has over 25 years of clinical experience. She has learned that checking eyes involves the whole profile of an individual. This involves being sensitive to complaints of the physical body as well as environmental which can contribute to eye symptoms and ocular signs.
Dr. Pineda immigrated to Canada with her family at the age of 6 from Germany. Her native language is Spanish (born in Colombia), and since then has added Portuguese as her third language.
Dr. Maria Pineda completed her Doctorate of Optometry degree from the University of Waterloo in 1986. While attending the University of Waterloo, she also received a General Bachelor Science in 1982. In 1994, she attained her Certificate in the Treatment and Management of Ocular Disease from the Northeastern State University, and is certified by the Ministry of Health and the College of Optometrists of Ontario, to prescribe ocular therapeutic drugs.
Between 2003 and 2006, Dr. Pineda provided Home Visits and Eye Exams
in Nursing Homes. She acquired a love for the elderly, and it is her mission, to provide a high level of eye care with empathy to all of her patients.
She currently is an active volunteer in her local GTA community, working along with her husband. She enjoys most of her free time providing leadership in small home groups from her local church.
